Institute
The purpose of the Institute of Ranch Management is to meet the continuing educational needs of the ranching industry that extend beyond the mission and role of the Ranch Management Program. More specifically, the Institute offers client-oriented seminars and courses to a variety of professional groups, and provides information and continuing education programs to alumni of the Ranch Management Program.
The Institute emphasizes applied approaches to promote effective and efficient management principles and practices in the ranching industry. Programs and activities are designed to meet the needs and interests of the ranching industry at the regional, national and international levels and are designed to fulfill the educational needs of specific groups and are presented at a level appropriate to the audience.
Groups served include:
- Alumni of the Ranch Management Program

Jeff Geider
William Watt Matthews
Director - Business professionals who have a direct interest in ranching, but may not live or work day to day on their property
- Local and extended area ranchers that have a need for ranch education or special programs for continuing education
- Professionals who have a financial interest in ranching but are not directly involved in agricultural production (agricultural entities associated with beef cattle production)
- Educational institutions in other countries
- Various agricultural associations or enterprises seeking continuing education experiences
A formal assessment of each program is conducted and includes the responses of program participants and sponsors to ensure the appropriateness and quality of the Institute activity.
Although the Institute operates as a separate organizational unit, it is closely affiliated with the Ranch Management Program. The director of the Institute works cooperatively with the director of the Ranch Management Program and has proficient knowledge of the Program and is responsible for coordinating and designing the programs to meet the continuing educational needs and interests of agribusiness professionals and related groups and agencies.
Instructors for Institute-based educational activities are selected according to the program to be presented. Each instructor is recognized within the industry as knowledgeable and credible, with appropriate credentials.
The Institute operates on a fee-for-service basis to recover all direct costs for travel and instructor expense. Therefore, a fee is assessed for each program.
